Volkswagen or more commonly known as VW is a German automobile manufacturer founded in 1937 by the German Labour Front and translated means “Peoples Car”.
The history of Volkswagen stems back to Adolf Hitler who in 1933 advocated a car to be built that was affordable and reliable that would be suitable for the German working class. In 1934 Porsche won the contract to design and build a quality car which subsequently was called “The Peoples Car” (translated in German “Volks-Wagen”). Within only ten months the prototype was developed and was called the Volkswagen Type 1 or better known as the Volkswagen Beetle, which then became the best-selling car in history.
Today, Volkswagen has grown to become one of the world’s largest multinational corporations, with a list of subsidiaries that includes Bugatti, Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini, Skoda and Seat.
